Areas to Organize and Declutter Your Space to Help You Enhance Your Success in the Year Ahead

You’ve reflected on the last year and the holiday season by now ( if you haven’t, check out the post prior to this one!) and now it’s time to set yourself and your space up for what’s next: the year to come. There are small ways that you can make big changes in key areas of your work: your office, kitchen, and your storage spaces.
We’re assuming here that you’ve already put away your holiday decor but the question is have you put it away properly? Did you organize and edit your decorations?
Office: as you’re sending out your team’s tax information (by the end of January!) you’ll be in your office files. It’s time to clear out from your daily files anything that pertains to your taxes and set it aside in one place for the accountant. It’s a new year. Is there year-end paperwork that needs to be batched and put up? Anything from last year that is cluttering up your daily files needs to be edited and put away or discarded. Get that shredder out and enjoy the extra space in your file cabinets!
Kitchen: it’s time to pull any excess clutter from your kitchen counter tops. Wipe down your counters and leave only what you use daily or love to see (we’re big fans of a pretty Kitchenaid Stand Mixer if you have the room). Have you been holding on to recipes that you thought you might try but never have? It’s time to either try them or get rid of them! The downtime is a great time to test out recipes to see if they work at your business and will delight your guests. Lastly, it’s time to approach your pantry: is there food and canned goods that you’ll never use? Partially used packages? Exired food? Time to get rid of these things to make space so that your cabinets aren’t bursting!
Housekeeping: storage is probably at a premium for you (it is for all of us if we’re being honest right?), so it’s time to evaluate how you store things in your space. Any storage bins that don’t work, have lost their lids, are cracked or damage? Time to replace and reevaluate. Do you have a stack of linens that need to be repaired or are missing an important piece like a pillowcase or washcloth? Time to donate! Your local animal shelters always welcome donations of linens.
Lastly, it’s time to abandon any projects that you’ve started and will never get to. Give yourself the grace to know that you can either have someone finish it for you or you’re not really that into the outcome or the process.
We can’t wait for you to feel the weight of your stuff off of your shoulders and out of your space! What is the one thing you need to clear out of your space?
